Dealing with the fallout from two fatal accidents
A small district Council with 500 employees had recently suffered two separate fatal accidents involving the public and their employees. I worked with the Council by reviewing and introducing a new Safety Management System and new Health and Safety Policy. I organised a communication programme with managers and employees to roll out the policy and promote a safety culture to raise the standard of Health and Safety. This included revising the intranet pages and setting up team briefings, training and monitoring systems.

Getting procedures in place in a hurry
A self-employed engineering contractor was applying to carry out work for a large national organisation. They needed evidence that the contractor was a safe and competent contractor. My task was to gather the information together to provide his accreditation. This had to be done quickly over two days. Once the evidence was received the large national company were satisfied.

At the annual Insurance company inspection, a concern was raised that the safety procedures had become a file, which sat on a shelf. I was asked to review the procedures and come up with a practical way in which to bring these procedures into live working arrangements. After my review I developed arrangements, which periodically involved management and employees in the updating and review of their procedures.

A Fatal Accident
The organisation I was employed by had a unfortunate fatal accident, involving a member of the public, in one of their areas of responsibility. I had extensive involvement with HSE, who eventually decided there was no criminal case to answer. We then presented the circumstances of the accident through the Coroners Court leading to a misadventure verdict. I then managed the accident through the Civil Courts with a negligence claim, until the court decided there was no case to answer.

International Market in Bradford
I led my team in the preparation and monitoring of the health and safety of the annual international markets in Bradford. This included working with the various stakeholders and the emergency services. We provide full safety support and guidance to Markets Department. A comprehensive safety monitoring service was provided throughout the event.
